Corrugated Board

We make corrugated cartons to specific customer requirements and do not carry stock sizes.

We can price and make cartons and boxes based on the customer giving us the FEFCO code and the 3 dimensions of the carton or box and the grade of board required ‑ not forgetting quantity, of course.

Your carton can be plain or printed ‑ we can provide from single to full colours.

We specialise in providing cartons along with internal fittings providing an integrated protective packaging solution. Because we design a complete pack to do a particular job you can be sure that you are not under or over protecting your product because of the combination of carton and fitting.

Prototyping new packaging can be simplified because you are dealing with only one supplier ‑ samples of box and polystyrene or foam arrive together. Ordering is easier as well, with only one order to place ‑ one delivery and one set of paperwork for accounts.

Because we are a manufacturer you will get the benefits of keen pricing with no middleman adding on a percentage and communication is easier because you are dealing direct.

Types of corrugated board

There are 4 elements involved in the description of corrugated board - the weight of the board, the flute, the type of the board and the combination of the layers in the board

weight This is a number representing the grams per sq meter of the board. For example the most popular weights are 125, 150 and 300. The weight used in an application is determined by what goes in the carton and how it is to be transported. As a rough rule of thumb specify 125 or 150 for lighter weights and use a 300 only for double wall applications.
flute A letter from "A" to "E" is used to describe the flute - that is the corugated layer in the middle of the sandwhich. Most lighter applications use "B" flute, moving up to "C" flute for heavier items and a "double wall" for the heaviest items, usually a combination of "B" and "C".
type of board This describes the type of paper used in the inner and outer layer. The standard is for the outer layer to be made of a stronger, virgin paper called Kraft ("K") and an inner layer using recycled fibres called Test ("T"). Where appearance is important you could use White or OysterBoard (mottle white). Whilst each board can be different weights they are normally the same.

What do they look like and how are they described ?

single wall swexplanation
This has a single fluting, hence single wall, and is decribed as top layer weight ,oblique ("/"), bottom layer weight+flute e.g. 125K/125T B flute
double wall

dw

This has 2 flutings, and an additional mid layer. It is described as top layer weight+1st flute + 2nd flute +, bottom layer weight, e.g. 150K BC 150T Flute

How to measure a corrugated box

Sizes are normally measured in millimetres. The box is described by its length, breadth and height - L, B, and H.

You can see how this is shown on the drawing of an 0201 box which many lay people would regard as a "normal cardboard box"

carton box 0201

The sizes are the internal measurements. If you have an existing box measure between the creases. If you have product's dimensions use these. If in doubt contact us.

We have links to all drawing styles showing where the H, L and B dimensions are measured.
